Salamat po!!!
Seriously, I just would like to thank all of you for the cooperation and for the friendship you have shared and given to us for 10 days. I can say that the IBM eMentor training was the best training I ever conducted so far. (wa po ito charing ha!!!). I was amazed how you aggressively and delightedly participated in every activity we conducted (maybe because of the prizes, tama po ba Sir RJ???!!!). At first I thought I would be having a hard time getting your attention pero mali pala ako. You really contributed a lot for the success of the training.
What more can I say? Well, honestly, your outputs were great. I do hope that everything you have acquired from the training will be used and implemented to your respective school ha at kung pwede now na , as in NOW NA… Ok po ba…... If you have problems with regards to the implementation of this project, do not hesitate to inform us ha.....
By the way nga po pala, if you would like to send private mails, you can email me at meohangeles@yahoo.com.... antayin ko po ang emails ninyo ha....
I am looking forward na makapunta po sa inyong school…..Again, thank you po sa inyong lahat.
Meoh

Missing you guys!
Happy Amun Jadeed!!! (Happy New Year!)
Assalamo alaikom (Greetings of Peace) to everyone! What's up guys? I've read all your posted messages...how touching naman. Huwag naman kayong ganyan, what's the use of modern technology? Kung miss niyo "'ko", hehehe...dito lang me...just text my name and i'll be there!
Ngiti naman jan...ow? Kayo ha, masyado nyong sineseryoso paghihiwalay natin? Hayaan niyo pagnanalo ko lotto lahat kayo i-bloblow-out ko...saan? Saan pa...siyempre...sa Alta Pension Inn? Kayo naman...that's where we've met, di ba? Memories of Alta, STI and Marco Polo will never be forgotten. Balikan natin 'yon, basta pag yumaman na ako, ipagdasal niyo ha?
You know what, when I reported in our school, as if I'm a celebrity! My students were very glad to have me back, nag-unahan sa pagyakap at paghalik sa akin. Halos matumba ako sa pag-aagawan at pag-uunahan na makalapit sa akin. Oy..ganun pala ako kahalaga sa kanila. Yung pagod ko sa pagbiyahe nawala sa nakita kong pagsalubong nila sa akin.Because...we arrived at about 2:00 o'clock A.M. last thursday, and I missed also my students and co-teachers so I reported that same day just to tell them the news and stories, what we did in Davao City. I gave every students a durian candy as my pasalubong, room to room talaga ako to make sure that every student will receive a durian candy from Davao.
Starring of course sa mga stories ko, Si Sir Garsh and Sir Meoh, 'miss you sirs! And of course co-starring all the IBM eMentor Scholars, how are you? 'Miss you too! Did you miss my kaguluhan, kaingayan, kalokohan or jokes kaya? Sorry if my mga natamaan ako, I just wanna make the group smile and be happy.
Thanks for everything and hope to see all of you soon.

Keep the Flame Burning
I am truly delighted to have heard from you. I know that the road ahead may not be as easy but it is our passion for teaching that will carry us through. There may be some things that we cannot control but we shall continue to fight and rise above these constraints....sir meoh and i shall continue to work behind and beside you to help you whichever way we can.

Nagpaparamdam Lang
Well as of this writing i have lots of plans on how to get started with this Ga-bundok na responsibility... just the mere thought of no-electricity-reality in our area makes my whole sense of direction evaporate. As in paano nga kaya samantalang 5pm pa start ng ilaw sa island namin and by the time na lights on na eh out of sight na ang aking mga ever beloved students... (just to give you a picture... we live on an island and some of my students live up on a mountain na nasa island... kinda nakakahilong location diva???) anyway kahit ganun... i can feel some kind of positive vibration with my new mission in my teaching career.
I'll just pray hard ( I was never that religious talaga... but am pretty sure God always provides!). So meaning He will provide me with electricity or watever way basta alam ko makakaya ko. Of course mas magiging magaan kung anjan pa rin kayo... I'll always be grateful to you guys. I'll keep you posted!
Take care everyone! Gob bless....

IBM starts grassroots IT training for teachers
By Alexander Villafania
INQ7.net
IBM recently conducted its eMentor Scholarship for teachers in Mindanao, the company’s first grassroots program to provide teachers with knowledge on using IT for education far flung areas.
Partnering IBM is Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM-2), an organization dedicated to providing Mindanao schools with PCs and Internet connection.
Thirty high school teachers in Basilan, Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi were chosen as eMentor’s first scholars.
For ten days, they were provided with intensive hands-on training in computer-based education.
The group has an existing blog (http://ibmementor.blogspot.com) where they have posted comments and suggestions on the 10-day program.
Among them were Saliah Datucali Amin from the Saguiaran High School in Lanao del Sur and Leticia Santillan Adjarail from Batu-Batu National High School in Tawi-Tawi were grateful to receive practical knowledge on new technologies for better and more effective teaching methods.
“The integration of technology in my class would enable me to teach effectively and efficiently. I have learned a lot in the IBM eMentor Program, specifically in designing my instructional materials,” Amin said.
Adjarail, too, expressed excitement in going back and teaching what she’s learned – “that I should not rely on books alone when it comes to teaching.”
IBM will continue monitoring the scholars’ progress in the next four months, to be followed by an awarding ceremony for five eMentors who have made good use of their new cyber training.

one of the best ten days of my life.....
IBM empowers children
Five-years-old Rizza Mae Joy Lopecillo touches the computer membrane like some sacred artifact. She is among the pre-school kids, who have been itching to get near the colorful computer with its wide plastic cabinet and large keyboard.
Though they do not have their own computer, she knows that this one is really different from what she sees on the television or that in their neighbor’s house.
A volunteer-teacher finally asks her along with another kid to sit in the bench that fits two children. Without any delay, she and her friend did a virtual tour of the world along with their friends, who couldn’t help to watch them learn and play. They even tried doing the numbers in the computer.
“Nalingaw jud ko ug tan-aw kay lahi ra siya sa mga libro nga among gigamit (I enjoyed watching it because it is so different with the books we use),” Lopecillo said. When she grows up, she wants to be a teacher and dreams of using computers in her class.
Integrating technology in early learning is part of Integrated Business Machines (IBM) Corporate Community Relations Program that empowers children to learn through the use of technology. The program is in partnership with EduQuest, that helps prepare the curriculum for children from ages 3 to 8 .
Lessons in Science, Math, Language, Reading and Geography are packaged creatively to make it attractive to children while tapping their multiple-intelligences. They also use the pedagogical approach of collaborative learning as at least two children could help each other learn new concepts. Other children could still participate in the learning process as they watch and make their own answers too.
“Part of our trust is to share what we have to society through this Integrating Technology in Early Learning program,” Richard Burgos, IBM-Philippines Communications Manager said. He added they donated computers along with the Little Tikes furniture in Cebu City Central Elementary School, Zapatera Elementary School, Labangon Elementary School and the SOS Village to expand the learning experience of the students.
He added teachers are trained by EduQuest on how to integrate the technology inside the classroom to keep them updated also in the new trends in teaching.
Burgos said learning with the use of the Little Tikes furniture with IBM’s advance computer technology and pre-school software programs enable the kids to have a safe and productive learning experience. Unlike the ordinary keyboard, the Little Tikes Membrane Keyboard makes computer exploring fun and educational. This Membrane Keyboard helps teach and reinforce reading and keyboarding skills in children, ages 3-7 years as it uses a color-based mnemonic system. Consonants, vowels, punctuation marks, numbers and function keys are easily recognized because each has its own bright color. Even the flat, easy-to-clean surface of the keyboard is larger than a standard keyboard, making it easy for young children to operate with comfort and control. In case of spill outs, the computer is safe as it is encased with two locking cabinet doors and the computer wiring is stored inside the ventilated cabinet.
In this age of Information and Communication Technology, even young children should be updated to encourage them to expand their learning experience inside the four walls of the classroom.

IBM to push for open source on eTrainings
AN official of the international information technology giant said they will be advocating open-source operating system in future computer trainings they would organize.
In an interview with the media, Joaquin Quintos IV, president and general manager of IBM-Philippines, said Filipinos should learn how to use different operating systems.
He said while they are in partnership with Microsoft, they believe in the standards of open-sources which can be freely shared by computer users without necessarily paying licenses.
He said open-sources can also provide better opportunities in the Philippines where software licensure is a big issue.
He said they only used Microsoft in the first eMentor Scholarship Program in partnership with USAID because the said program is already integrated in the computer units the trainees used.
The training which lasted for eight-days was held in STI Computer College.
The eMentor traning aims to develop the use of “technology” among the schools in Mindanao starting with the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. RPA

never ending experience
hopefully not my last reflection........by nor-ain
What a day to remember...
As I go through the nine days of learning there's one sure thing that I can be proud of, that is...that I am one of the participants in the IBM eMentor Scholarship Program. We've gone through many experiences, the joys of learning, the happy moments with our co-participants and of course with our trainors, Sir Garsh and Sir Meoh, "I salute all of you!" I just hope and pray that the brotherhood, friendship, jokes and sharing that we had during our training will not just end in this room where we've met everyone, it's great working with you guys.
But as the days goes by, there comes always a parting time and that's the hardest thing to do, but we have to go back in our school stations (as Ma'am Tata just said) to infect our co-teachers and students what we have learned in this said training.
This day, we have witnessed everyone's output applying what our facilitators have imparted us. Everyone has presented well in his/her output, thanks to our energetic facilitators. And of course I would like also to extend my sincerest gratitude to all the people who made this program a successful one, the IBM Pilippines, EduQuest, GEM-CLIC, Ma'am Tata and Maej. More power to you all.
What a day to remember...? Guys...I will remember you the way you are and everything we've got. Thanks for everything and I apologized if I have offended you. Wassalam...may the Peace and Guidance of Allah be with us all!
"The Finale" yet "A beginning for a new milestone" (Davao Training)
To Maam Tata for a very inspiring message shared to us this afternoon. You had given us the spirit to really move on!
To Maam Maej, Maam Happy and Sir Abet our GEM CLIC Coordinator in MSU! Thank you very much for the untiring support.
Let's go to our own "world" and multiply!
Pa shift lang ng personality sandali ha?!
Warning: The serious side of me!
I am indeed so blessed for having been chosen as one of the scholars. Challenging yet enjoyable... this gave me the chance to widen my horizon in terms of sharing what I have to my students. I just realized that no matter how you feel that you have given enough there is always a room for a quest for more knowledge. Thanks to IBM, GEM, EDUquest, to our mentors sir Garsh at sir Meoh for the opportunity given to all of us, rest assured we'll try our best to "infect" others and to pass the "virus" to our co- educators in our respective areas. Anyway... hope to see you guys one bright day soon! Good luck to all of us....
( Charing!!! hehehe kala nyo seryoso lahat noh di ko kaya hanggang end eh.... gaya ng blinog ko nung 1st day this training made me alot more praning... in the sense na parang ang dami kong gustong i share... nahilo na ko.... well, bye for now... SALAMAT)

Days to Remember
After presenting my output to the group and after listening to my co-eMentor scholars' presentations, I was overwhelmed and inspired to do the best things I can do to improve my strategy and method as a mentor because I've discovered a lot of amazing things which really can help me in presenting my lesson more meaningfully, effectively and efficiently.
This is really the kind of training that can help the mentors particulary in the ARMM Region to enhance their methods and strategies in teaching (although MADUGO as what Sir garsh and Sir Meoh said). I really salute the SUPERMEN (Sir Garsh and Sir Meoh) of this training for their great patience, untiring assistance, overwhelming suggestions, comments and brilliant expertise they shared to us ; and the organizers/sponsors (GEM, IBM, and EduQuest) for the opportunity they've extended to us mentors in ARMM. Sir Garsh and Sir Meoh, I hope and pray that we'll have another projects/trainings to work on with. Thanks for everything that you've shared to us. My co-eMentor scholars, thanks a lot for the warm friendship and company you've shown to me. I really enjoy having you around for the whole duration of this training. I hope we can meet again for another challenging training. Once again, Shukran (Thank You) to all of you guys...............................
Always keep in touch.

Day 4 Reflection
reflections.......by nor-ain (day 4)
Sir Meoh, where do you get your amazing ideas???
reflection (day 4)
Day 3 Reflection
In fairness d na ito history!!!
Kaya lang as in... my head is aching na ( see???? IS ang ginamit ko at hindi WAS). My eyes want to make mura-mura na talaga because I have been like stuck up na tlaga and I don't even wear my contact lens kasi nga its kinda matutuyo lang kasi katabi ko aircon ( ay ambot!!) but anyway...... although medyo nawawala na ko sa katinuan, in fairness ang dami kong na discover ngaun sa job-to-do ko.
So hirap talaga kasi kulang ang materials na magagamit ko... kung bakit kasi napagtripan ko pa ang musika ng Tawi-Tawi( Taga Leyte kaya ako?!) Bhu!hu!hu!... but it's ok God will Provide ( ako ang iyong konsensya " Ipasa ba sa Lord ang work??").
Aktwali... I feel like making Bunyi-bunyi na bacause my work is kinda may patutunguhan na.
I was able to collect some images na... thanks to my reinforcers.
Time to go na. Parang lahat na tayo ay halos lumalabas na ang mga ugat sa head. Stop na! Now na!!
bukasulit,

Computers…computers…computers!
As we have agreed yesterday the group who wins the MOL quiz, will be for today’s facilitator of another MOL before starting the training proper. Group V, Marie, Yam, Nor-ain, Arnold, Bong and Jeff, made a bouquet with questions inserted in each petals. While singing the song, "The More We Get Together..." the participant pass the bouquet to each participant and who ever got hold of the bouquet after the song will answer a question. Everybody was having fun during the game.
Our lecturer for the today is again Sir Meoh, he introduced us the "Wordles" game which made our mind twist in order to get the correct phrase. Sir Meoh discussed about worksheets and everybody is excited to start his/her own design for the presentation of our lessons. At last we are now starting to design our presentations. There are so many things that we have in designing our presentations using the MS Powerpoint.
Wow...what a day! We've learn so many things on this day, thanks to our very energetic lecturers or shall I say 'facilitators' from the very start of the training to this days and hope 'til the end of our training. "Sir Garsh and Sir Meoh...we will cherish the days being with us."
Day 4 Session

The Day 4 morning session is about the art of facilitation and the art of questioning. Capturing the students attention with visually appealing multimedia presentations is not the end of the story. The teacher should be able to sustain that interest. At this point, the teacher should be able to have good facilitation skills to ensure that the momentum is sustained and the learning outcomes met.
After that, the participants continued working on their presentations, eager to apply what they have learned...excited about the new tricks and tips...
Day 4 Management of Learning

For Day 4, Garsh and Meoh assigned the task of creating an MOL to Group 4. The group created a wonderful paper boquet whose petals contain slips of paper with questions regarding the previous day's lesson. The boquet is passed around while singing the chorus of the song, "The More We Get Together". Then the person who has the boquet in his/her hands at the time the song is over gets to answer the question.
We all have fun! We all get to recall!
History ulit!!! ( reflrection cheness Day 3)
May mga newly discovered actors and actresses at ang pinaka matindi sa lahat may mga potential ago-go dancers pala kaming kasama ( thanks sa social studies group... now we know na may alternative job pala kahit di na dumating ang Sept. and Dec salary.... Rejoice mga katribu!!!)
It wasssss an exciting day kasi mega Hands-on to the highest level na ang aking mga kachuva dito while ang yours truly ay nasa isang tabi patuloy na giniginaw sa aircon ( Help!!!wala nito sa Tawi-tawi). Actually kung nabasa nyo reflection ko kahapon... still I am making isp-isip pa what to do... parang sa sobrang dami ng gusto kong i apply, my hands are kinda paralyzed na tuloy and my brains ( kunwari gumagana... no kokontra pls!) ay parang hindi na maka organize ng thought.
Honestly dahil nga sa nasa dulo ng Pilipinas ang Tawi-Tawi at ako ay located sa isang isla ay buong puso kong ikinukumpisal na guilty ako sa paratang na i don't regularly gamit our PC sa school dahil nga sa ala pong kuryente sa araw (ouch!!!) and we only make kabit-kabit sa sa generator ng mga multi- company sa "neighboring country" ( Globe Lines) but anyway medyo di na ko magwoworry kasi ayon sa aking bubuwit ay pinapa ayos na ang aming generator sa skul so I can practice na what "I preach". Hopefully... i can be more of service to mankind ( medyo related naman di ba? and take note may sense!)
I am sure so dami pa ang in store for us.
so keep sane!!!
Meparin,
Bavelle

3rd Day!!!
Our lecturer for the today is no other than Sir Romeo "Meoh" Aquivido from San Pablo City, Laguna. "Hello sir, i'm pleased to meet you!!!" Before starting our training proper for the day, Sir Meoh motivated us by grouping us by six the group who gets the highest points wins and our group, Group V won. More activities...we were also inspired to make a telefantasia skit by subject areas, a very approachable person. In our skit, we were given specific titles to relate, for me who belongs to the math teachers we instructed to relate our skit to the popular sitcom "Pinoy Big Brother" setting in solving for the solution of the equation. It was a motivating start of the training. Everybody in the group contributed in doing the skit. The English Group won. Then after that we continued our lesson for the day. For the next lesson, we are again given another activity. We grouped ourselves again by six and made a resolution for various people: within the group, for the school administrator, the mayor and for the President. Its an interesting activity 'coz we need cooperation and creativity for this activity.
Upon arriving for the afternoon session, we were so excited and enjoyed watching the pictures taken by Sir Garsh publish in the net. And of course, the training proper will not start without motivation so we played an amuzing BINGO Game, Sir Meoh gave us the mechanics that is you should have the material shown in order to mark the number and five winners were declared.
Sir Meoh started discussing on Presentation Media, a very exciting lesson. For here we were able to know basic skills that we need in doing our presentation. Everyone of us enjoyed doing our work specially our presentation using the powerpoint. There are so much to be learn we even go on overtime. We finished already at past five in the afternoon. So, we just roam around at G-Mall for quite sometime then went home early to prepare the materials neede for MOL tomorrow. We were having so much fun in doing it, shared jokes and laughters all over the room. We evicted my roommate Sal because she was not a member of the group...'sorry Sal', that's the way it is! We finished making our material at around 11:30 PM. Infact, Yam slept with me because Sal is already asleep in the other room. Suddenly...somebody knocks at our door..."who's there?" Wwweeooww...surprise, it was Nor-ain, she came back because she was having a nightmare, so slept with us.
What a day? Hope we can survive this hectic schedule and more skils be acquired as we on our training!!! To Sir Garsh and Sir Meoh...more power.
History!!! ( kahapon pa kasi dapat ito!!!)
I was suppose to make my 2nd day reflection kahapon kaya lang... well anyway... what transpired nga ba kahapon??? hmmm...
Kahit medyo nagstart ng mag react ang ibang "body parts" ko dahil sa sobrang pagkakaupo, I must admit I did have a great time. Aside from the fact that nanalo ang group 1 sa game kahapon ( ahem!!) kung saan ako ay "kapuso" marami rin akong natutunan sa lecture.
I just realized na mahirap maging isang effective guro coz paper works make me a lot more praning and it so Kaka ( sounds so coñotic ba?? sorry elitista ako ngayon bwahaha!!)... but honestly it's so rewarding... I am sure sa darating pang mga araw mas marami pang mapapanalunan ang group 1 ( oopsss.... teka paki connect.... sorry humangin ba bigla??) in other words, sooo dami pa kong malilearn ( sana din, kaya ko pang tumayo ng straight after 7 days at kayo din).
I have to make stop na muna here ha? because i have to make isip-isip again sa susunod kong reflectioneees
Isang mapagpalayang araw sa ating lahat!!!!
Stay cool... Keep going

News on the Instructional Value of Blogs
Here is an excerpt of an article that speaks of blog as a useful instructional tool that the teacher can use:
Students are familiar with blogging, in which they go to a Web site such as myspace.com and post their thoughts and opinions. While not widespread, some teachers have set up blogs to communicate with students on classroom Web sites.
A school district near Richmond, Va., recently unveiled a program of teacher blogs, and school blogs were the subject of an article in the July issue of American School Board Journal.
In Arizona, teacher Ben Goodman at Cimarron Springs Elementary in Surprise set up a blog for his students last year on the classroom Web site. As a computer lab teacher, a blog was a natural extension of his skills.
Teachers often shy away from blogs because they worry that students will post inappropriate comments. Goodman came up with a solution to prevent this: On his next blog, students will have an identification number and password so he can track who makes each comment.
Goodman predicts more teachers will use blogs as they discover them.
"It just takes time," he says. "There probably aren't very many teachers who use blogs themselves, and if you don't understand the potential, it's hard to get excited about it."

2nd Day Reflection!!!
Again, Alhamdulillah, I started my day with my daily obligatory prayer "The Subuh or Fajr Prayer". After prayer, I arranged my things and fix myself. Knock at the door steps of my co-scholars and wake them up. Then at about 7:00 o'clock we have our breakfast.
At the training proper, we started an action song, "Every single cell...". Then Sir Garsh continue his discussions and gave us an activity about "Learners Analysis with the aid of Sir MEOH. In the afternoon, Sir Garsh continued his discussion and inspired us to do Lesson Planning and while doing so, we have picture taking with Sir Garsh. We were just wandering why Sir Meoh hesitates to take picture with us. "Sir Meoh, we just want to remember you somehow, together in a picture...?! Well, anyway he was very cooperative and very accommodating.
During the lectures and discussions that we had, new words were added into my vocabularies and additional information about technology. This is a very informative day. We end up our training for today working with our Lesson Plans. A pleasant day!!!
Again, from STI we continued our window shopping, for this time at SM. From there I made the Ethnic Group at the tourism section perform their dance, I love their costumes, very colorful!!! We enjoyed very much window shopping, infact we came home late because we didn't notice the time that it was already past 8:00 o'clock P.M. We were the last people to eat dinner. Well...well...well, better go home early next time! Good night!
Another day to remember! Day2
It's another day of friutful endeavor, I am enlightened by some additional knowledge and skills of the modules being discussed to us. A lot of challenging works as an edge to the realization of making lesson plans through the aid of IT. Got tired yet its worth gratifying to say I'VE LEARNED MORE. With the ever dynamic and approachable facilitator ENGR. RAYMOND M. GARCIA i have nothing to say and ask for. You're GREAT! I salute you. With the kind assistance of SIR ROMEO VILLANUEVA believe me you can do it!
A million thanks!

Day 1 Reflections!!!
Today, January 16, 2005 is our first day of training. I'm so excited. I woke up early at about 4:45 A.M., prepared myself and made my obligatory prayer for "Subuh" to start my day. May the blessings and guidance of ALMIGHTY ALLAH be with us not only for today but for the whole duration of our training.
After fixing myself, my co-scholars have our breakfast at about 7:30 alrerady. We enjoyed our meals beacause we ate like a King... "eat all you can", thanks to GEM-CLICK. After breakfast, we walk under the heat of the early morning sunshine... wow, I sweat before reaching our destination, STI the venue of our training.
Upon reaching STI, we were required to present an I.D. before entering the area. Then we registered for the first day of our training. "Good morning to everyone!" I met my co-IBM eMentor Scholars and known all the people involved in this training program. Registration started from 8:00 o'clock to 9:00 o'clock this morning and while waiting for the rest, Engr. Raymond "Garsh" Garcia is very accomodating to the trainees and started to share some knowledge that he has to share with us about the training program. He also introduces us his co-pilot Mr. Romeo "Meoh" Aquivido and some people from STI.
Then finally comes the Opening Program which started at about 9:30 AM with a welcome remarks from Ms. Arcille Catherine B. Raagas. Then an inspiring message from IBM Philippines representative Ms. Andrea Escalona, Country Marketing Manager and an appetizing remarks from EduQuest, Engr. RAYMOND GARCIA, Program Manager.
We have also an open forum and after that we started an orientation what we are about to learn in this training. For the first day, Alhamdulillah, I have acquired an additional knowledge about technology for that will be very useful in the future for teaching my students. THANKS to Sir Garsh!
Before going back to our lodging house, we have sometime window shopping in Victoria Plaza. So many interesting things to buy, but sorry...no much money.
We already arrived in Alta Pension around 9:00 o'clock P.M. We ate our dinner with much laughter because everyone in the group shared their funniest experience. What a day??! God Bless to all. See you...

It feels great to be part of this group.
We will be working for 10 days... Todong patience and endurance ang kailangan.
well anyway...To everybody... let's keep our sanity hanggang sa last day.
