Surfing the Galaxy

Facts
European scientists reported Wednesday they have found an Earth-like planet outside the solar system -- an exoplanet with moderate temperature and possibly having liquid water, two factors that can sustain life.The planet, orbiting a red dwarf and estimated to be some 20 light years away from Earth, may well become a destination for man in his search for extraterrestrial life.

While the scientists have not physically seen the planet, they could presume its existence from measurements of gravitational pull taken of the star. The new planet could be just about five times the mass of Earth and hence a super-Earth.
2. Xavier Delfosse, a member of the team from Grenoble University in France, said in a statement, because of the planet's temperature and relative proximity, it will most probably be a very important target of the future space missions dedicated to the search for extra-terrestrial life.
"It's a significant step on the way to finding possible life in the universe," said University of Geneva astronomer Michel Mayor, one of 11 European scientists on the team that found the planet. "It's a nice discovery. We still have a lot of questions."
The scientists say the exoplanet (extra solar planet) -- planets revolving around a star other than the Sun -- is the smallest ever found up to now, completing its full orbit in 13 days. It is estimated to be 14 times closer to its star than the Earth to the Sun. But Gliese 581 is smaller and colder than the Sun and thus less luminous and the planet lies in the habitable zone -- the region around a star where water could be found in liquid form.

The latest discovered planet is Gliese 876 d, which has been found to be the stars closest orbiting planet

Greetings....Greetings....Greeting....

Assalamo Alaikom (Greetings of Peace to everyone)!!!

How's everybody now? What's keeping you busy? I hope you still remember those days when we were together acquiring those knowledge that we are now using in our teching profession. For us here in MSU-Balindong, we still continue to apply and use all that we have acquired especially using PowerPoint as a tool in teaching our students. Infact, after our recognition and awards night again we have used powerpoint in our English Day Quiz Bee (All subject categories). And the CD that I have "the Boxer" is now on the loose. My students enjoy very much to have an interactive lessons in my class.

I hope everyone of us will not forget to apply the knowledge that we have.

God Bless!

It's me,

Ms. Marie

IBM eMentor has Changed the Landscape of Teaching

Dear All -

It has been a long while. Thanks for keeping me in the loophole esp. on the developments of the IBM eMentor Program. I'd like to take this opportunity to:

1) Congratulate everyone for a job well done! The winners deserved acknowledgment for their hard work and perseverance, and the rest of the group remain "agents of change" . Please continue to spread the new skills acquired through the program to your students, and the rest of the community. With these little steps, we can hope for a "domino-effect" as more and more teachers learn from you and your continuous growth as teachers/mentors. One year has passed and everything has been spinning off really fast, but knowledge and the skills that you will impart to the future generation of leaders will remain a huge factor towards peace & development of Mindanao. Again, kudos!

2) Express my gratitude for everyone, for remembering me as one of the pillars in the implementation of the pilot program of the IBM eMentor in Mindanao. Muchas gracias!

3) Let you know that I'm just an email away. My contact info (mobile number/email add) remains the same so please keep in touch.

Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones!

Best regards,
Maej

To Almighty ALLAH, Most Gracious, most Merciful;

To all the people behind my success as an IBM eMentor Scholar;

My sincerest gratitude to all!

Being one of the IBM eMentor Scholars, great changes, opportunities and blessings in my life as a teachers have come my way. But...the journey of an IBM eMentor Scholar is not easy. From the selection process to the rigid training...up to the implementation that we have gone through, the joy and laughter; sadness and tears, feelings of nervousness and sometimes "mental block"...even sleepness nights with my co-IBM eMentor Scholars (MSU Group)...but all of these experiences are repaid by our students who have been the intrument of reaching and achieving our goals and objectives as an IBM eMentor Scholar. The wandered eyes and the puzzled face of every student in our class especially during their first view of learning using the power of technology, every smile of a student that cracked into their lips...serves as an inspiration to us to continue our struggle in teaching and learning process of our students. Their only wish is that...every subject or even even every class discussion be done through the computer technolgy.

Soar high eMentors! Spread the knowledge and skills we've got from this program especially from Sir Meoh and Sir Garsh. For they have empowered us with the best tools and skills to fully exploit technology as an instructional tool. Let's open our classrooms to a world of new discovery and learning. Our time has come to make technology based teaching and learning a meaningful experience for every student of ours. Good Luck for a new beginning!

Thank you and Congratulations to all!
