MSU-Balindong Basic Computer Training

MSU-Balindong Community College...will start the "Basic Computer Training Program" this Sunday, April 30, 2006, from 1:00-4:00 P.M. The first batch will compose of our T.H.E. Teachers with no knowledge, and our Summer Bound Teachers (4 teachers) coming from private schools will also join the said training. They will be categorize as advance and will have a tutorial on the use and integration of technology in classroom instruction, since they are already computer literate.

The said training will be done every afternoon from Sunday to Thursday and 8:00-12:00/1:00-4:00 on Fridays due to the on-going Summer Bound and Enrichment Class in our school. Every year these summer classes are implemented especially for Math, Science and English subjects and all in-coming first year are required to take the High School Summer Bound Class.

Wish me luck!!!

First visit

Hey guys ............... I'm back, still alive and kicking!!!!

Everyone of the Lanao IBM group was so delighted for Sir Meoh's visit. I myself felt so refreshed, because of the new knowledge he shared to us. It's just like being upgraded. Thanks Sir Meoh for the time and effort and Ma'am Vivian of GEM. We enjoyed your company. Ma'am Maej, we understood why you were not able to go with Sir Meoh here in Lanao. Hope to see you during the next visit.

Sir Meoh, you're such a courageous IBM mentor. I really salute you for that, because you were able to reach the farthest places here in Mindanao,as far as Jolo, Lanao and Tawi-Tawi. Sir,may I ask your secret for being so energetic? hehehehehehe.........

We, the ementors here in Lanao have already a plan for the re-echo seminar this May. Regards to everyone!

The Visitation...

It was a wonderful and peaceful day at about 4:00 o'clock in the afternoon when I received a message saying that goes this way, "Ma'am Marie dito na me hostel...wer u na?" Oh...i was so excited, it was a message coming from Ms. No-rain, Sir Meoh and company arrived at MSU...for the first time. With warm Hello's, we welcomed sir Meoh and Ma'am Vivian here at MSU! After exchanging some messages, short stories and talks...we roamed around MSU for our dear Mentor to see the peacefulness of our place MSU-Marawi City.

Such a courageous Mentor...shall i say, 'coz despite of the news that everybody hears from the media about our place, he still packed and GO to Marawi City.

Hoping that your visit here in Lanao del Sur serves as an eye opener to other people that our place is just like any other place where you can also visit and see the beauty of nature hidden in our place, not just to hear and believe all what's in the newslines. Sir Meoh...thanks for the visit! Hope Sir Garsh may also have a time to visit our place. Thanks and WASSALAM.

Ms. Marie

Site Visits

Dear eMentors,

The site visits had been very crucial in the eMentor "cycle". Thank you for the very warm accommodation, esp. for the participation of the key persons in the program (eMentors, principals and other officers). It is esp. important that everyone's aware of where the program is going and how it will create a huge impact esp. in developing the ICT in the education scene in Mindanao. We have already created an "initial" databank of lesson plans which will eventually spiral in to something bigger and greater.

I am writing this blog from the CLIC Computer Lab of Tawi-Tawi School of Fisheries :-) We are now on our third to the last leg (we will see Sir RJ Sampang on Thurs, and Sir Jeff Jikiri on Fri) and we much appreciate the enthusiasm of the eMentors!

I have posted photos of the site visits conducted in the Yahoo!groups (please upload if you have photos, too).

To the IBM eMentors in LDS and LDN: I really missed the chance to visit you all (due to an unavoidable Team Leaders' Meeting), and will definitely would love to come back when we conduct the classroom observation on August.

To Sir Garsh: Everyone misses you. Thanks for still being very virtually visible and supportive to the program. Rest assured we will make this very successful.

Regards,
Maej

A Date to Remember

It is gratifying to say that my MSU-Lanao co-eMentor scholars had given me all the praises and appreciation of the occular visit that Sir Meoh had conducted in my stattion. As I read all your blogs I am very sentimental for what you had posted, I did not expect that it would be the outcome of what we had exerted before the coming of our dear mentorr (Sir Meoh, wishing to have Sir Garsh)I treasure the friendship and the company with you guy(you are all really an IBM eMetor) Thanks for everything that was the fruit of our labor. Sir meoh is really a great mentor for being brave and determined without any hesitations in coming to some part of Lanao specifically our place wherein we are in unstable condition with respect to peace and order. But because of my prayers and with the support of my principal and colleagues, we were able to lessen the chaos by asking them to behave just for a while because of the coming of our visitors. Mind you guys, the following day after the visit, again the loud sounds of the guns heard a distance from our school while I am conducting the preliminary exam of my geometry class, again my students were running inside the class for safety. I was thankful that it was not happened during the visit. At least nkapunta na rin kau dito sa amin kasi lahat din sila first time din nkapunta ng Maguing. I hope you enjoy.
To you Mam Sal, Mam Yam, Mam Marie, Mam Carol, Mam Norain, Sir Acsie and Sir Aquil. A millio0n thanks you'll always be blessed because you are really good. To SIR MEOH , wala na akong masabi. "Thank you so much" To MAM MAEJ sobrang supportive kahit di po sya nkapunta through text it is more than her presence. Next time nlang Maam. Sir Garsh, thank you for the inspiring messages. IBM, Eduquest, GEM_CLIC thanks.
Regards to all, Msta na kau lahat co-scholars.

I Wish I Was There

Wow things are really heating up for the e-mentor program. I am very excited to hear that a lot of the scholars have been making in-roads in the field of educational technology. Meoh and Maej are doing a great job in keeping the group fired up.

If you need me to look into your lesson plans, please feel free to send me an email or notify me as to where i can download them so i can give you suggestions. I had a nice time voice chatting with Nor-ain weeks back and we concluded that technology can bridge people from different geographical regions. I would have had the chance to see you guys in your stations but Meoh and Maej would do just fine.

Anyway, congratulations!

THE GREAT TOUR OF LANAO WITH SIR MEOH

April 18, 2006......

I met with Sir Meoh at around 3 pm in our school, toured him in a short while, he took pictures of our computer laboratory, and some shots inside and outside the campus......

I would have liked to tour him in our Municipality, but because of time constraints we have to make our trip as quick as possible...
Before we know it, we're off to MSU-Saguiran.....Same thing, took pictures and then went as quickly as we arrived.....

Then off to MSU-Main Campus.....Headed them off to wrong direction ( I didn't know MSU hostel-sorry)......And In the hostel, we met with Ma'am Marie, Ma'am Sal, Sir Arnold, Sir Acsie, and Sir Aquil (mabeauty parin by the way)....Then we went to MSU-ILS to visit Ma'am Yam, and done the usual routine pics here and there....

We then toured Sir Meoh inside the Campus........Hmmm.....As the case, again, pics here and pics there with us as the models.......We showed Sir the famous sleeping beauty in the golf course (though seems the sleeping beauty is nowhere to be found, must be having her afternoon walks)......We then dragged Sir to MSU-ISED for Ma'am Barbs and Ma'am Venus' workplace.......We then took Sir Meoh to the Commercial Area of the campus (with me panting in heavy breaths.... hello...am walking in the hills with my heels, am not used to it......its not an excuse, but at least i get a day worth of exercise hehehehe).........Then we had dinner in a very cool place called Star Venue (did i have it right?).....That was a great time indeed.......

In the evening, Sir Meoh gave us preliminaries of what we will talk about the next day.........Had some coffee, and treated Sir with our local delicacies.....We discussed the newsletter, we're very excited about the whole concept, and we're looking forward to its conceptualization hopefully by June... .

April 19, 2006.....

The next day, we had our lecture at the MSU-ISED computer laboratory, and Sir Meoh explained everything and what needs to be done and etc etc............

Hmmmmm......Seems theres a lot that needs to be done still....And am a bit overwhelmed with all of it......My mind is racing......Forming some plans here and there.........And at the same time asking and challenging myself what needs to be done and how to do it with my head up cool.....

With my head still buzzing with ideas and plans, we set off to Sir Arnold's world....MSU-Siawadatu.....There, we were treated with great hospitality and with a sumptous lunch.....Sir Arnold give our thanks too to your principal......

Too bad I had to cut off my trip with the rest of the guys as I was not feeling very well then......As we were having our lecture with the students, I was so much in pain, I keep on forgetting my lines....They have to drop me off at my in laws as I can't bear the pain anymore.....

Hmmmm.........Ma'am Marie and Sir Aquil can continue from this point onwards..........as Sir meoh was scheduled to visit their schools the next day..........

My apologies for worrying you guys......There are things we can't control..........

Sir Meoh, again welcome to Lanao......The place of streamers.........

eMentors' lesson plans uploaded in the GEM site

We are pleased to inform everyone that the lesson plans developed by the eMentors were uploaded in the GEM site for other CLIC teachers to access. We are positive that the lesson plans will reach hundreds of CLIC teachers out there (to date, there are 295 CLIC schools). This is to further inform you that the lesson plans that you will continually develop will be uploaded and will definitely help, motivate, foster a collaborative learning environment within and among CLIC teachers.

For your preview, kindly click on the ff. URL: www.mindanao.org/preview. Click "ENTER" then, click the tab (in blue) "Education". The page will lead you the Education, then click "CLIC Teachers Section".
Important Note: The site is just for preview and will be formally launched on May 2006 (either in the USAID Philippines website or GEM site, we will keep you posted).

With the lesson plans created by the eMentors (and continue to develop over the next months), we are also encouraging other CLIC teachers to share their materials as well. We are hoping that the databank of lesson plans will increase every month through your strong commitment to the IBM eMentor Scholarship Program.

For satellite-connected CLIC Schools

Dear eMentors:

As part of your commitment/pledge as eMentors, may I reiterate the importance of maintaining Internet connection. Most schools are currently OFFLINE either because the school failed to renew their contract beginning the 13th month onwards (CLIC assistance includes free 12 months internet connection, afterwhich the CLIC school commits to pay the subscription based on the PTCA Resolution submitted along with other documents for application) due to non-coordination of ISPs (Internet Service Providers such as AZCommunications, Inc for satellite-connected schools, DCTech for wireless broadband, etc).
Currently, AZCom has a website where all queries re: billing/payment methods will be immediately answered. (URL: www.azcomm.net). Click on the "LIVE HELP" and then, wait for another window to pop with tabs "AZComm Live Chat" and "Leave A Message".
First, click on the tab "Leave A Message" and write your email. Below, there is a space alloted for "Question". Please write the ff: important data which AZCom will need to be able to restore your internet connection:
a) your complete name (mention that you are an IBM eMentor Scholar);
b) complete name of school (municipality, province);
c) current status of your internet connection;
d) contact numbers (please provide 2-3 cellphone numbers and the names of contact person/s);
e) request for billing statement/contract of renewal and state the preferred way of sending it(either via email or available courier in your area).

It is very important that the school renews their contract with AZCom. If, however, the school decides to migrate to another ISP (i.e. Smart Wifi or PLDT DSL is already available in the area), it is important to prompt GEM Program (through me) and inform AZCom right away, otherwise, they will continue to bill you. Prior to migration, bills must be settled first.

I personally asked AZCom not to disconnect all schools (YET) trained under the IBM eMentor Scholarship Program based on the commitment to re-echo the training and to maintain the internet to carry out the commitments. The schools, on the other hand, are expected to sustain the internet connection.

I hope this clarifies everything.

Thanks,
Maej

Back to You

I would like to apologize for the extended silence. I know that some of you have been disappointed of my decision to leave the Philippines and seek for a better future abroad. I was in such a dilemma since November 2005 knowing that I would be leaving a lot of commitments. I was already accepted this early but it was only during the IBM training in Davao that I got a call informing me of my employer's intention of sending me abroad by the end of February 2006. I am now currently connected with Saudi Aramco Training Center College Preparatory Program teaching Advanced Placement Chemistry. I know that the good Lord had given me an opportunity to meet you guys to enable me to understand to some extent the Muslim culture.

I'm back on track for I have never left EduQuest in the first place. I am just on an indefinite leave. But my heart continues to be committed to the eMentor program with Meoh as the front person now. I was really looking forward to visiting your respective stations but I guess the possiblity is remote in the near future.

I was able to talk to Nor-ain via voice chat and it was a refreshing experience. Taking advantage of technology is what we, ementors, are capable of. Hence, I can still be a support to all of you despite the distance. So keep all those posts coming.

Shokran Jeddan to everyone for pressing on!
