eMentor Monitoring Visit #1

Hi eMentors.

I just would like to share with you the highlights of our first monitoring visit last April 17-28, 2006:

During the consultation visit, it was agreed that each scholar will design, develop, and implement at least 5 instructional materials (PowerPoint presentations and lesson plans). The working topics shall be submitted on or before May 15, 2006 using the MentorPlace communication tool. eMentors also agreed to submit a portfolio of outputs. You were requested to document all technology-integrated lesson plans implemented in the classroom.

The use of monitoring logbook was suggested to document your usage of the technology-enabled lessons, development of instructional materials and the actual implementation of the presentation in the classroom. The monitoring logbook will be submitted to EduQuest every 15th day of the month starting June 15, 2006.

It was also emphasized during the consultation that the eMentor scholars should train at least 10 teachers. Those who have conducted the echo training were requested to submit their training completion report using the MentorPlace.

Learning Sessions are conducted during our school visits. These sessions aimed to assist eMentor scholars in developing technology-integrated lesson plans. We gave a learning session on the different learning environments to reinforce their knowledge and skills on new innovations in technology-integrated classrooms, these are:

1. The InterAct Learning Center – a classroom management methodology that utilizes the computer connected to a big-screen television as the instrument for promoting classroom interaction.

2. The Inquiry-Based Learning Center - a learning environment that encourages learners to explore, discover and derive meaning from their learning experiences

3. The Knowledge Activity Center - an integrated learning environment which is commonly situated in the school library. It provides rich opportunities for students teachers and administrators to locate, organize and utilize current information and varied media resources.

eMentors were trained how to log on and use the Mentorplace website. It was reiterated that all communications will be coursed through the MentorPlace. As an initial activity, eMentors were requested to reply to the activity/announcement we have posted, “Monitoring visit #1”. Tryscience website was also introduced to the eMentors.

Ms. Maej Villanueva introduced to the eMentor Scholars the GEM website, http://www.mindano.org. The website serves as a database of teacher-prepared ICT-enabled Instructional Materials. It also serves as a venue for the eMentor scholars to produce, distribute, sharing and improvement of lessons.
