Insight of Marchan Padla

Reflect on this insight from Marchan Padla during the culminating program of my reecho..

Insights and Impressions on IBM E-Mentoring Training

Every time I finish my lecture, my polo and pants are powdered with chalk. One day, when I was on my way to the Faculty Office, Ma’am Omeirah Maruhom told me that, “I am a good teacher because I have the signs on my clothes.” I was elated by her comments at the same time struck by the depth of her observation. But also I realized I have a problem. How can I avoid the dusts of chalk? Everyday I have the same problem, either a chalk-smothered polo or whitened pants. Until the day came- the
IBM E-Mentoring Program. The training showed us the opportunity to be creative and resourceful teachers while enjoying the benefits of information technology and integrating the system in a classroom setting. Thanks to IBM, GEM and USAID. Thanks to Mr. Acquil Andog for his enthusiasm in bringing the program to every nook and cranny of this school.

Since this is “technology integration” to every learning area, allow me to use some of the jargons in the cyber world that somehow symbolized the different aspects of this training.

BLOG – is short for web log. This is a personal journal that people put on website for others to see. Throughout the training the word “mentoring” was being used to also emphasize that we as participants are here to share our knowledge for others who lagged behind. I observed that we are helping one another, assisting one another in creating our PowerPoint presentation. This is a symbolism of sharing one’s blog to others. As teachers we are busy individuals but still, we are able to share our time to undergo this training.

GEGABYTE - an amount of information equal to 1024 megabytes. As teachers we are challenged to gain information and creative skills for our teaching methods. Within us are huge hungry spaces ready to devour information and trainings. We have inexhaustible spaces, millions of gigabytes, potentials that are waiting to be filled up with useful information and skills. The young generation is regarded as the computer geeks of today’s “increasingly information-rich world” but this notion did not stop us (young at heart) to gain same level of expertise.

GLITCH– an error in the program or in the computer. During the training we have encountered a lot of barriers – time constraint, availability of persons and equipments. But still we endeavored to continue this training to learn new things, to revolutionize our way of teaching. We became resourceful individuals. At the start of the training I was amazed by the determination of the trainers in bringing the speech of Ma’am Villanueva to us via phone. Technology would make everything available only we need to be resourceful.

Not a single glitch would weaken us to graduate for this training.
Congratulations!
