Re-echo Training-Workshop: Welcome Address by DR. MALAWI A. PANAMBULAN (Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, MSU)
"This is now my second time and opportunity to welcome the participants of these workshop trainings sponsored by the IBM eMentor Scholars' MSU Chapter. The sponsors of this training are the lucky applicants who underwent a very competitive selection process last September 2005 and a very rigid and extensive training on the rudiments of curriculum technology integration last January 2006 in STI, Davao City.
Ten (10) of the Top Thirty IBM eMentor Scholars are from Mindanao State University and I am proud to tell you that six (6) out of the ten scholars coming from MSU are from the MSU External Units and only four are from the main campus high school department. This team of scholars is chaired by Mrs. Maryam Q. Manalundong, a Math teacher of MSU Balindong who is actively involved in the implementation of e-technology not only in their school but also in the other units of the University. This team's commendable objective is to share their knowledge and expertise to all of those who are interested to enrich classroom instruction through the use of modern technology.
The IBM eMentor is a Corporate Community Relations Program on Teacher Professional Development in Educational Technology spearheaded by IBM Philippines in cooperation with EduQuest, Inc. and the USAID funded Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM). Many of the External Units are recipients of computers donated by the GEM.
As the traditional role of teachers is now challenged by new methods and strategies enhanced and facilitated by the power of Information and Computer Technology (ICT) applications and tools, IBM eMentor aims to develop the Contemporary Teacher of the Twenty First Century, one who is enabled to apply and adapt effective use of ICT to inspire interest and motivate students to become lifelong learners, impart knowledge, and facilitate community participation as partners in learning.
The advent of computers has made the teachers and the students lives easier. Through internet surfing, information about anything can just be easily availed of and research activities have become more hassle-free.
I commend your participation in this workshop training because I know that the skills that you may acquire from this training will help you in facilitating teaching and learning in your respective classes. You will be hopefully producing students from the countryside who will become globally competitive in the field of information technology.
Again, I welcome you to this training and I hope your three (3) day stay here in the campus for this activity will equip you with the necessary skills that will make the teaching-learning situation in classrooms more interesting and challenging to students.
Thank you."
