AN official of the international information technology giant said they will be advocating open-source operating system in future computer trainings they would organize.
In an interview with the media, Joaquin Quintos IV, president and general manager of IBM-Philippines, said Filipinos should learn how to use different operating systems.
He said while they are in partnership with Microsoft, they believe in the standards of open-sources which can be freely shared by computer users without necessarily paying licenses.
He said open-sources can also provide better opportunities in the Philippines where software licensure is a big issue.
He said they only used Microsoft in the first eMentor Scholarship Program in partnership with USAID because the said program is already integrated in the computer units the trainees used.
The training which lasted for eight-days was held in STI Computer College.
The eMentor traning aims to develop the use of “technology” among the schools in Mindanao starting with the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. RPA
